Someone I work with has plans to go camping next week. He’s looking forward to the escape from city life and the chance to see some stars. His comment got me thinking that I couldn’t recall the last time I tilted my head back towards the night sky. I too had plans to escape the city for a couple of days and arrived on the cape yesterday morning. I spent most of the day at the beach, cheering for every break in the rather cloudy sky and catching up on sleep. Last night after my brother and I returned home from the bar I stopped in the driveway for a few moments for some stargazing. I can only name two constellations but my eyes knew exactly where to look for them. I forgot how many stars are visible down here. I think that when you live in the city you forget to look up. I spent a couple of hours lying on my bedroom floor by the sliding glass doors, switching back and forth from reading to stargazing. I will have to thank my new friend for reminding me how great it is to have stars in your eyes.
